The Boondock Saints was met with critically negative reviews and made less than a hundred thousand dollars upon release, largely due to Troy Duffy's lack of connections due to his attitude and behavior. It was highly acclaimed by movie goers, however, and has become a cult classic. It spawned a sequel, and rumors of a third movie have been floating around for quite some time.
