It's a credit to the might of the propaganda machine operating throughout and beyond the Second World War that many of us are still only vaguely aware that the Allies had their own POW camps. Perhaps the authorities missed a trick, because while our boys were burrowing to freedom like rabbits from the Nazi jails, Jerry was having no such luck. In fact only one German prisoner ever escaped from an Allied camp to return to the Fatherland. His name was Oberleutnant Franz Von Werra, and The One That Got Away is his story. It's a good one too. Forced down over Kent in 1940, Luftwaffe ace Von Werra (Kruger) is imprisoned in a camp in the Lake District. Cocksure, boyishly handsome, and cutting a dash in his flying leathers, he immediately starts planning his escape. After two failed attempts (essentially legging it while his captors aren't looking) he's shipped to Canada where he gets a final chance to break for freedom - bolting from a transportation train across the frozen St. Lawrence River to America (still neutral in 1941). The picture's title gives the game away somewhat as to whether he makes it to safety or not, but there's a final surprise in store at the close.

This little known anime film, conceived by the legendary Osamu Tezuka, is an unique, psychedelic interpretation of the Aladdin story. The first in a series of three films - the "Animerama" - it was aimed at an adult audience. It took me awhile to find the film, and I hardcodded the subtitles myself. Apologies if the subs aren't to your taste - it's all I could find.

Vayuputhran aka Munna (Arjun) comes out of the prison with a promise to his jailmate Bala (Prem) that he would take care of his ailing brother Satish, who is about to undergo a surgery. After visiting Satish in the hospital, Munna goes to Vallakottai (from where he gets an assignment) to earn money. His job is to surrender for the murder of Suresh, the Zameendaar of Vallakottai, which is to be committed by Suresh's archrival Rambabu (Ashish Vidyarthi) and his brother Sethupathi (Vincent Asokan). At Vallakottai, Munna meets Anjali (Haripriya) and Veera Sangili (Ganja Karuppu). As scenes unfold, he falls for Anjali and also comes to know that Suresh is harmless and Rambabu is the one who is to be punished. Even as acting as a servant of Rambabu, Munna wears different getups in the name of Vayuputhra and teaches a lesson or two to the baddies. In the meantime, Bala gets released from prison and what follows is a twist
